Approaches

The lab relies extensively on genetically altered mice, using conventional, conditional and large scale gene targeting and has expertise in histological and immunofluorescence analysis. In addition, we use cell culture models, in combination with molecular biology approaches (siRNA, gene transfer methods, DHPLC-based mutation analysis; DNA arrays), a range of cell biological (video microscopy, cell migration, adhesion) and biochemical techniques (protein interaction, purification and growth factor assays, cytokine arrays). Further, we have established Drosophila melanogaster as a genetic model system to investigate pathomechanisms in keratin disorders, to study mechanisms involved in barrier formation and function.
